ECOLOGICAL GASTRONOMY
In Plešivica, the heart of what we proudly call the eno-gastronomic mecca of Zagreb County, lies a true gem of Croatian gastronomy – Restaurant Korak. This hidden treasure, guided by the passionate vision of chef Bernard Korak, proudly holds the title of the only restaurant in continental Croatia to have been awarded a Michelin star, as well as the prestigious Michelin Green Star for excellence in sustainability.
Family-run and set amidst a picturesque landscape, Restaurant Korak is not merely a dining destination but a symbol of deep commitment to environmental responsibility in food production and ingredient handling. The Korak family explains that their culinary creativity is inspired by local, seasonal ingredients cultivated with exceptional care. “Sustainability is the foundation of our philosophy,” emphasised renowned Croatian chef Bernard Korak.
The Only Restaurant in Croatia with Both Michelin Distinctions
That sustainability truly lies at the core of their business philosophy is confirmed by the Michelin Green Star. Restaurant Korak is the only restaurant in Croatia to hold both a Michelin Star and a Michelin Green Star. This distinction recognises outstanding commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable gastronomy. At a time of growing global interest in sustainability—particularly in tourism and gastronomy—Restaurant Korak stands as a benchmark culinary experience and a model for future generations of restaurants.
“We are proud to promote Plešivica and Restaurant Korak as jewels of our sustainable destination. Restaurant Korak is yet another example of how gastronomy can preserve our region's cultural heritage and natural environment while respecting sustainability principles. High-quality eno-gastronomic offerings are of exceptional importance for our destination, especially considering the growing number of international visitors with strong purchasing power,”said Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board, Ivana Alilović.
Zagreb County is also home to another gastronomic gem recognised by Michelin inspectors, who have awarded it a recommendation—for the sixth time. The Turopolje-based restaurant Mon Ami is best known for its excellently prepared Mediterranean specialities, and given its quality, it is widely believed that Michelin stars may soon follow.
Growing Tourist Arrivals and the Rise of Boutique Destinations
According to the latest data, Zagreb County has recorded a 20% increase in tourist arrivals and a 17% rise in overnight stays compared to the same period in 2023. These figures strongly support the growing importance of continental tourism in Croatia and confirm the high quality of the region’s tourism offer. Numerous examples of authentic cuisine paired with estate-produced wines provide visitors with unforgettable gastronomic experiences. Such success stories serve as a strong driving force behind even stronger tourism results—results that already look highly promising.
