Ivana Alilović: “Through Via Vino, We Bring Together Winemakers and Local Hospitality Businesses, Giving Visitors an Insight into Our Region’s Unique Identity”
Organised by the Zagreb County Tourist Board, this year’s Via Vino festival took place at Dobra Berba Winery in Sveta Jana. The event paired the host winery’s wines with local gastronomy, giving visitors a chance to discover the distinctive character of the region where these wines are produced.
At the heart of the event were sparkling wines from Dobra Berba Winery, accompanied by wood-fired pizzas prepared by local restaurant Kora. The winery’s autumn setting and opportunities to meet the hosts allowed visitors to discover not only the wines and food, but also the people and dedication behind them.
Through Via Vino, the Zagreb County Tourist Board continues to strengthen cooperation with winemakers and local hospitality businesses while enriching the region’s autumn tourism offer. By hosting events at the wineries themselves, the initiative places particular emphasis on direct interaction with the hosts and the connection between wine and its place of origin.
Special attention was also given to the responsible organisation of the event. Visitors were encouraged to use public and organised transport or carpool, while efforts were made to ensure responsible waste management and considerate use of the winery’s premises.
The festival’s approach to sustainability was also assessed through a survey of 123 visitors. Although travelling by car remained the most common means of transport, 72% of respondents who arrived by car travelled in vehicles carrying three or more people. In comparison, almost 10% of visitors used public transport. Respondents also placed considerable importance on event sustainability, giving it an average rating of 4.75 out of 5.
Ivana Alilović, Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board, emphasised:
“Through Via Vino, we bring together winemakers and local hospitality businesses, giving visitors an insight into our region’s unique identity. We want guests to meet the people who produce our wines and discover the surroundings in which they are made, while giving our hosts opportunities to showcase their work and build new partnerships. In this way, we are building a distinctive wine tourism offer for Zagreb County. At the same time, it is important to us that events are thoughtfully integrated into their surroundings and bring lasting value to the local community.”
