IMPORTANT: Stay Safe During Periods of High Temperatures

During the summer months and periods of high temperatures, we encourage everyone attending events, festivals, excursions and other attractions in Zagreb County, as well as throughout Croatia, to exercise extra caution and behave responsibly while spending time outdoors.

Proper preparation and following basic heat safety recommendations can significantly reduce health risks associated with high temperatures, allowing you to enjoy your planned activities safely and comfortably.

To protect your health and make the most of your visit, please follow these recommendations:

Stay Hydrated

Drink water regularly throughout the day—don't wait until you feel thirsty. Before heading to an event or excursion, make sure you bring enough drinking water, especially if you plan to spend an extended period outdoors. Avoid alcoholic beverages, and limit drinks high in caffeine or sugar, as they can contribute to dehydration.

Avoid Direct Sun Exposure During the Hottest Part of the Day

Whenever possible, plan outdoor activities during the morning or late afternoon. Between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, seek shade whenever available and take regular breaks.

Wear Appropriate Clothing and Sun Protection

Choose lightweight, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing made from breathable fabrics. Protect yourself by wearing a hat or cap and sunglasses, and apply sunscreen with an appropriate SPF to all exposed skin.

Adapt Your Activities to Weather Conditions

Avoid strenuous physical activity during the hottest hours of the day. Whether you are walking, cycling or participating in outdoor events, slow your pace, take frequent breaks and drink water regularly. Follow the instructions provided by event organisers and pay attention to any signs of heat exhaustion.

Take Extra Care of Vulnerable Groups

Young children, older adults, pregnant women, people with chronic medical conditions and anyone who is particularly sensitive to heat require additional care during hot weather. Never leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle, even for a short time.

If you experience severe weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, muscle cramps or any other symptoms related to heat exposure, stop your activity immediately, move to a cool or shaded place and begin cooling down gradually. If your condition does not improve, seek medical assistance. In the event of severe symptoms or loss of consciousness, call 112 or 194 immediately..

Before travelling, check the latest weather forecast and any official weather warnings for the area you intend to visit.Official forecasts and alerts issued by the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) are available here:
