“Promotion of Natural and Cultural Heritage for the Development of Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas” – PRONACUL
PRONACUL promotes the preservation and enhancement of natural and cultural heritage while supporting the development of a transnational strategy to jointly promote the Adriatic–Ionian region as a distinctive and sustainable tourist destination.
Given that the Project Partners and/or Associated Partners manage UNESCO-protected and/or Natura 2000 sites – or will designate protected areas as part of the project activities – the principal objective of PRONACUL is to improve the management of natural and cultural heritage protection in line with contemporary needs and anticipated development trends. This will be achieved through the development, application and promotion of a joint methodology for managing and conserving natural and cultural heritage across the Adriatic–Ionian (ADRION) area. The methodology is based on a participatory approach involving relevant stakeholders..
A common methodology for heritage management in the Adriatic–Ionian region will be created and implemented with the active involvement of key local, regional and national tourism stakeholders.
Project activities are supported by a Virtual Chamber – an online platform established to promote the methodology and facilitate its transfer and application to other regions. The Chamber serves as an advisory body supporting tourism development, the exchange of experience and the sharing of good practice in heritage management.
To enhance and strengthen the effective protection of natural and cultural heritage, the methodology will be disseminated to policy-makers as recommendations for inclusion in local, regional, and national strategic documents. This will help ensure the long-term development, promotion and valorisation of heritage, particularly within the framework of sustainable tourism.
The project is led by the Regional Development Agency Zasavje (Slovenia). One of the project partners is the Zagreb County Tourist Board, while an associated partner is the Žumberak–Samoborsko gorje Nature Park Public Institution.
PRONACUL was funded under the INTERREG V-B Adriatic–Ionian Programme (2014–2020).
