February Marked by Steady Growth and Longer Stays

Between 1 and 27 February 2026, Zagreb County recorded 6,567 arrivals and 12,099 overnight stays, representing an increase of 1.9% in arrivals and 4.7% in overnight stays compared with the same period last year.

This trend confirms healthy, structurally balanced growth. Overnight stays are increasing at a faster rate than arrivals, indicating that visitors are choosing to remain in the destination for longer. The average length of stay has risen from 1.79 to 1.84 days — an important indicator of the growing attractiveness and depth of the County’s tourism offer.

Strengthening International Markets and Stable Domestic Demand

The domestic market continues to provide a stable foundation for tourism performance, with a modest rise in arrivals and a more pronounced increase in overnight stays. At the same time, international markets are demonstrating stronger growth momentum, particularly in overnight stays (+6.5%), reinforcing the destination’s increasingly favourable position on the global tourism map.

Growth across foreign markets confirms that Zagreb County is recognised as a year-round destination — appealing to short-break travellers, business travellers, eno-gastronomy experiences and active holidays.

A Stable Start to the Year

Cumulatively, from 1 January to 27 February 2026, a total of 14,536 arrivals and 26,467 overnight stays were recorded, reflecting growth of more than 5% in arrivals and nearly 4.6% in overnight stays. These figures confirm a stable, positive start to the new tourism year.

Accommodation Structure – Hotels Lead the Market

The hotel sector maintains its dominant position and continues to record growth in overnight stays, while campsites and rural accommodation are experiencing the expected seasonal impact. This segment nevertheless represents significant development potential, particularly through thematic programmes, eno-gastronomic experiences, wellness offerings and regenerative tourism content during the pre- and post-season periods.

“February’s results confirm that Zagreb County is growing steadily and strategically. We are particularly pleased that overnight stays are increasing at a faster rate than arrivals, demonstrating that guests recognise the value of our offer and are choosing to stay longer. This reflects quality, not merely quantity.

Our focus is not solely on increasing visitor numbers, but on creating added value through a year-round offer, the development of eno-gastronomy, the strengthening of rural and active tourism segments, and enhanced international promotion. We remain committed to investing in a sustainable and regenerative approach to tourism development, intending to ensure a competitive and resilient destination in the long term,” said Ivana Alilović, Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board.

Strategic Direction of Development

The results achieved highlight several key strategic directions:

• Growth is controlled and sustainable

• Extending the average length of stay is becoming a more important indicator than the number of arrivals alone

• Market diversification ensures stability

• The year-round offer continues to gain prominence

February 2026 confirms that Zagreb County continues to grow responsibly and with a clear strategic focus on developing a sustainable and competitive destination.
