March in Zagreb County never arrives with great fanfare. It appears quietly, almost imperceptibly, in days that suddenly grow longer and in a light that is no longer winter. A softer light, morning mist above the fields, and footsteps that slow down because there is no longer a rush to get home before nightfall. There are no sudden changes – just the gentle opening of windows, a walk to the town square, and a return to one another. Spring is not announced with words, but with the habit of going out again. And once we do, we realise that the calendar already offers more reasons to do so than we had planned.
Spring in continental Croatia has always been a time of gathering, creativity and community. That same spirit is reflected in the programme of events that fills towns and municipalities across Zagreb County throughout March. Theatre performances, concerts, exhibitions, workshops, festivals and sporting events all confirm the richness and diversity of activities that accompany the arrival of the new season. “Spring is a time we always look forward to,” "Today, Photo Zagreb County is much more than a photography competition. Over the past six years, it has evolved into a project through which, together with photographers, we have been creating the visual identity of Zagreb County while preserving moments that become part of our destination's lasting story. Every photograph offers a new perspective, evokes new emotions and tells a unique story that strengthens the recognition of Zagreb County. This year, we are placing particular emphasis on events and festivals because they beautifully connect people, traditions, cultural heritage, local gastronomy and customs. Photography has a unique ability to capture atmosphere and authenticity while inspiring visitors to experience these moments for themselves. We want every image to become an invitation to visit Zagreb County. I encourage all photographers—both professionals and enthusiasts—to share their vision of our destination. We are looking for photographs that do more than simply capture a scene; we are looking for images that tell stories, evoke emotions and create lasting memories. During March, more than 60 events will take place across Zagreb County – including over 15 theatre performances and exhibitions, eight concerts, film programmes, 15 workshops, four sporting events and six festivals.
Among the many events taking place in March, several stand out for their significance, organisational scope and broader tourism appeal.
The Santa Domenica Spartan Trifecta Weekendtaking place on 28 and 29 March at Lake Orešje in Sveta Nedelja, is one of the largest sporting events of the month. This international obstacle race attracts competitors from Croatia and abroad, offering demanding courses tailored to different fitness levels. The two-day sporting spectacle further strengthens Zagreb County’s position as a recognised destination for active and sports tourism, while attracting a large number of visitors and accompanying activities.
Ljubitelji povijesti i baštine svoju će priliku pronaći 21. ožujka u Samoboru, gdje se na Vugrinščaku održava uprizorenje Bitke kod Samobora 1441. U organizaciji Samoborskog muzeja, ovaj povijesni program kroz rekonstrukciju srednjovjekovne bitke oživljava važan događaj iz lokalne prošlosti. Autentični kostimi, scenografija i interpretacija povijesnih okolnosti čine ovu manifestaciju jednim od najprepoznatljivijih identitetskih događaja u županiji.
Dolazak proljeća i uskrsno razdoblje obilježit će i niz tradicijskih programa. Sajam ususret Uskrsu, koji se 21. ožujka održava u Pisarovini, okuplja izlagače domaćih proizvoda, rukotvorina i prigodnih blagdanskih sadržaja. Uz Pisarovinu, uskrsni programi organiziraju se i u Svetoj Nedelji, Dugom Selu i Bistri, kroz radionice, kreativne sadržaje i manifestacije namijenjene svim generacijama. Ovi programi naglašavaju važnost lokalne tradicije i zajedništva te unose posebnu atmosferu u javne prostore gradova i općina.
U kulturnom programu posebno se ističe i Missa Jubilaris, koja će 15. ožujka biti izvedena u Velikoj Gorici u sklopu manifestacije Lučićevi dani. Koncert u crkvi Navještenja Blažene Djevice Marije dio je kontinuiranog glazbenog i kulturnog programa kojim Velika Gorica njeguje svoju tradiciju i doprinos sakralnoj i klasičnoj glazbenoj baštini. Ovaj događaj predstavlja spoj umjetničke vrijednosti i lokalnog identiteta te zauzima važno mjesto u ožujskom programu županije.
