The Zagreb County Tourist Board has formally announced a public competition to identify the best host for the year 2025, specifically for the recipient of the Your Host/Local Host designation. This competition is open until September 4, 2025, and is available to 33 accommodation providers from Zagreb County that currently hold the Your Host label. This designation, instituted by the Croatian National Tourist Board and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, serves to recognise family-run accommodations that deliver an authentic, high-quality, and sustainable experience of Croatia to their guests.
The designation of Your Host/Local Host provides holders with a competitive advantage by differentiating them from private renters and appealing to guests seeking an authentic experience. Their offerings will be prominently featured in the promotional initiatives of the Croatian National Tourist Board across key emitting markets and digital platforms. This strategic approach significantly contributes to the increasing popularity of Zagreb County, renowned for its exceptional holiday homes that are ideally suited for those looking to escape the urban environment. In the first seven months of 2025, there was a 10 per cent rise in domestic tourist overnight stays. Furthermore, compared to the notable achievement observed in 2019, the total overnight stays exhibited an impressive increase of 35 per cent.
"This competition embodies our dedication to enhancing the quality of the tourist offerings in Zagreb County. Our objective is to recognise hosts who provide their guests with more than mere accommodation; they impart the narratives, traditions, and essence of our destination. The Local Host label assures guests that they will encounter authentic Croatian hospitality within a genuine family environment," stated Ivana Alilović, Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board.
Criteria for choosing the best host
The selection of the optimal host will be based on specific criteria, which encompass authenticity and a local connection through the preservation of traditions and cultural heritage. Additionally, the evaluation will consider hospitality and personalisation, characterised by a warm welcome and a tailored approach. Sustainability and environmental consciousness will also play a critical role, measured through the implementation of green practices. Furthermore, effective communication is essential, with the host serving as an ambassador for the destination. Lastly, a commitment to continuous education and the ongoing enhancement of skills will be fundamental in this selection process.

Announcement of the Winners at the Croatian Tourism Days
The leading host from each county, along with the City of Zagreb, will be recognised during the Croatian Tourism Days on November 20, 2025. Subsequently, the national winner, designated as Your Host of the Year/Local Host, will be revealed on November 21 during a grand finale that will be broadcast live by Croatian Radio and Television.
