This year, Zagreb County once again demonstrates its strength and potential. At the 26th International Business Tourism Exchange PUT , held on the island of Cres—an event that brings together tourism leaders and innovative projects—our people and initiatives received the prestigious “Simply the Best” award. The award is presented by the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies (UHPA) in recognition of outstanding quality, creativity and innovation in tourism. These accolades confirm the county’s genuine growth and diversity, while also highlighting that our goal is not merely to provide services, but to create experiences that live on, inspire and leave a lasting impression.
Among the award recipients are several distinguished representatives of our region. Restaurant Ivančić from Plešivica was named the best restaurant offering traditional continental cuisine. This family-run establishment is renowned for its authentic dishes that bring the flavours of the past into a contemporary setting.
The Vugec Winery from Donja Pušća received the award for the best tasting venue of local food and beverages. With its wines and high-quality service, Vugec stands out as an excellent example of preserving tradition while fostering agritourism development in the region.
The Santa Domenica Spartan Trifecta Weekend was awarded as the best outdoor event. This international sporting event, part of the global Spartan Race series, attracts an increasing number of participants from around the world to Sveta Nedelja each year. The Zagreb County Tourist Board proudly nominated this project for the award, and its continued growth demonstrates how sport and tourism in the county go hand in hand, strengthening its position as a recognised destination for active tourism.
The Samobor Carnival (Samoborski fašnik) also received an award as a traditional event. With more than 200 years of history, it has become a symbol not only of Samobor but of Zagreb County as a whole, leaving a strong mark on Croatia’s cultural calendar.
The Amanita Association from Sveti Ivan Zelina was recognised for its work within the mycological community. Bringing together nature and mushroom enthusiasts, the association contributes to nature conservation, the study of fungi, and education on their safe use. It also actively collaborates with other associations in Croatia and abroad, with a strong focus on preserving the country’s biodiversity.
Each of these awards represents a step forward in our mission to position Zagreb County as a distinctive and successful tourist destination. They serve as both recognition and confirmation that the direction the destination is taking is meaningful and well-founded. At the same time, they open new horizons for future growth, and we look ahead with optimism, confident that the county will continue to evolve and offer many more exceptional experiences.
