Pušća Unveils New Wine Spaces – A Project Connecting Young Winemakers, Tradition, and the Future of Tourism in Zagreb County

In the heart of Zagreb County's green landscape, the new Wine Space of Pušća was officially opened today—developed as part of the cross-border InterWine project, funded through the Interreg Slovenia–Croatia programme.

With a project value of €1.38 million, InterWine aims to create a unique eno-gastronomic destination connecting Croatia and Slovenia through wine, culture, and sustainability.

More than a ceremonial moment, today's opening marks the beginning of a new chapter in the county's tourism infrastructure. Pušća is becoming a new hub for wine stories, workshops, events, and young winemakers who see this project as an opportunity to present their products and passion to a broader audience.

"The opening of the Wine Spaces in Pušća demonstrates how InterWine is moving from planning to tangible results. It is a true example of synergy between the local community, winemakers, and the tourism sector—a collaboration that creates real value. InterWine is laying the foundation for a distinctive destination that blends gastronomy, sustainability, and innovation," said Ivana Alilović, Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board.

The InterWine project brings together partners from both sides of the border. Alongside Pušća, wine spaces will soon open in Brežice (Slovenia) and in Velika Gorica. This city plays a key role in the development of tourism in Zagreb County. Together, these three locations form the backbone of a new cross-border wine and tourism route—one that will introduce new itineraries, souvenirs, events, and digital platforms.

"We are proud that Pušća is among the first municipalities to achieve concrete results through InterWine. These new wine spaces are not only gathering points for winemakers but also launchpads for future tourism development, cooperation, and local economic growth. Our goal is to preserve tradition while creating space for young people who see their future in winemaking," said Filip Bernardić, Mayor of Pušća.

Led by the Zagreb County Tourist Board and partners from Croatia and Slovenia, InterWine weaves wine, culture, and sustainability into an authentic story of a region that lives and breathes through its vineyards.

With the newly opened wine spaces in Pušća—and soon in Brežice and Velika Gorica—Zagreb County reaffirms its status as a destination that proudly preserves its traditions while boldly looking ahead, guided by a clear commitment to sustainability, authenticity, and excellence.
