The Tomac Family Brings the First Organic Certification to the Plešivica Region

The Tomac family continues to raise the bar for quality and recognition in Plešivica wines, and their latest achievement—receiving an organic certification—is a clear testament to their success.
An organic approach represents the future not only for Plešivica but also for other wine regions, focusing on “honest” wines where consumers know exactly what is in their glass.
Currently, several local wineries—Tomac & Bajda, Korak, Šember, and Ciban—are in the process of obtaining this certification, demonstrating that Plešivica winemakers are not only keeping pace with the times but often ahead of them.
Italian biodynamic expert and enologist Michele Lorenzetti introduced the Tomac family to the world of biodynamics, a method that, like organic farming, relies solely on natural treatments while carefully observing natural processes. This autumn, the Tomac family will also enter the transitional phase for the German Demeter certification, which imposes stricter standards than conventional organic farming.
This year, the Tomacs have already showcased their biodynamic wines and the Plešivica region at the Raw Wine Fair in New York and London, and they have also been invited to present their products in Berlin.
The organic certification, issued by the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, is a rigorous process, but achieving it ultimately confirms the producer's quality, dedication, and commitment.
