Zagreb County is currently emerging as a prominent venue for sustainability initiatives. It has recently hosted the esteemed Dutch journalist Nynke Hoogma, an expert in slow travel and sustainable tourism affiliated with the agency Better Places. In collaboration with the Croatian National Tourist Board and with the assistance of Nela Pitko, Ms Hoogma is investigating destinations that genuinely embody the principles she advocates—authenticity, environmental stewardship, and local narratives.
The proposed route encompasses a comprehensive exploration of the elements that define the county's identity. Key highlights include the St. Barbara Mine, the renowned Rudarska greblica from the Nikl Bakery, the picturesque town of Samobor featuring the distinctive flavours of Bermet and Muštarda at the Filipec cellar, and the pristine natural environment of Žumberak. This journey is expertly guided by Janja Dimnjaković, whose narrative weaves together knowledge, sentiment, and tradition.
