Chef Leonor Espinosa – World’s Best Female Chef 2022 – Delighted by the Authentic Ingredients of Zagreb County’s Gastronomic Specialities

The green ring surrounding the city of Zagreb, known as Zagreb County, has long been recognised by the capital’s residents as a source of genuine, locally produced ingredients. Its rich natural heritage, preserved green landscapes, and unspoilt nature provide the essential foundation for sustainable and organic production that thrives in this area. It was precisely this authenticity that captivated Chef Leonor Espinosa, whom we introduced to the region’s gastronomic specialities prepared by Sanda Braje at Braje Wine House, as well as to the outstanding wine story of the Plešivica winemakers.

Plešivica is at its most beautiful in autumn, when the rolling vineyards are painted in golden, yellow, and red hues. During her visit, Chef Espinosa also enjoyed tasting the wines of the Tomac family, the first organically certified winery in Zagreb County. Her conclusion was clear: on Plešivica, excellent wines are perfectly complemented by refined gastronomic specialities offered by numerous acclaimed restaurants, where reservations are highly recommended.
