Žumberak Trail is an international trail running race held in the Žumberak–Samobor Hills Nature Park, just about 30 km southwest of Zagreb. This year’s edition takes place on 26–27 August, organised by the sports and recreation association Jastreb Extreme in cooperation with Athletics Club Jastreb 99.
Beyond running through pristine nature, participants can earn world ranking points (ITRA) and qualifying points for the prestigious Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB). In 2022, Žumberak Trail also serves as the 6th Croatian Trail Running Championship, both individual and team, on the ULTRA 50-mile course, and is part of the KontinenTrail League, making it one of Croatia’s most prestigious trail races.
The Žumberak Trail consists of four routes: Recreational (8 km), Short (15 km), Long (42 km), and Ultra (50 miles, 82 km).
The start of the longest and most demanding race, the 82 km Ultra, will take place on Saturday, 26 August, at 12:00 a.m. (midnight) from the village of Sošice. The 42 km Long Trail starts from Medven Draga at 9:00 a.m., the 15 km Short Trail begins at 10:00 a.m. from Plešivačke Poljanice, while the last—but no less special—8 km Recreational Trail starts from Perivoj at 10:00 a.m.
So far, 740 runners from 13 countries across several continents have registered, surpassing last year’s participation. An equal number of support staff, spectators, and guests is expected.
The event is supported by the Croatian National Tourist Board, which provided funding from the Tourism Fund for Less Developed Areas, as well as by Zagreb County, Zagreb County Tourist Board, and the City of Jastrebarsko, with its sports and tourism organisations.
Žumberak Trail highlights the unique landscapes of the Jastrebarsko region and Žumberak, showcasing pristine nature, local hospitality, and the cultural richness of Zagreb County.
