This Sunday, 3 July 2022, the town of Dugo Selo will host the event Summer St. Martin at Martin Hill (Martin breg), marking the 15th anniversary of the installation of the first Footprint of St. Martin in the Republic of Croatia. With the placement of the Footprint at the historic Church of St. Martin on 4 July 2007, Dugo Selo — and Croatia as a whole — officially became part of the European Cultural Route of St. Martin.
The St. Martin Project is European in scope, not only in spirit, but also in its formal recognition. In 2005, the Council of Europe (Strasbourg) and the European Institute of Cultural Routes (Luxembourg) designated the cultural route “Saint Martin of Tours: European, Symbol of Sharing, Common Value” as a Major European Cultural Route.
In addition to commemorating the first Croatian St. Martin Footprint, this year’s programme on Sunday, 3 July, will celebrate the region’s rich Templar heritage — with medieval children’s games and Templar-inspired sweet treats — as well as its longstanding winemaking tradition. Visitors will be invited to tour the Town Wine Cellar and vineyard, attend the 28th Wine Exhibition, enjoy complimentary Martin’s wine goulash, and take part in the art workshop Colours and Wine. The event will also embrace the charitable spirit embodied by St. Martin. During the workshop, The Cloak of St. Martin, children will decorate canvas backpacks and bags, with all proceeds donated to those in need — continuing the enduring message of sharing and solidarity that defines St. Martin’s legacy. We warmly invite all visitors to join us in celebrating heritage, community, and the spirit of giving in the picturesque surroundings of Martin Hill.
