100 Years of Cultural and Artistic Amateurism in Mraclin

From Sunday, 12 June to 19 June, Mraclin will host the XVII Days of St. Vitus alongside the celebration of a remarkable milestone — 100 years of organised cultural and artistic amateurism in the village.

The Cultural and Artistic Society (KUD) “Dučec” Mraclin, whose roots trace back to the church choir Vjenčić founded in 1922, marks a century of continuous activity in 2022. With a large and dedicated membership, programmes focused on folk heritage, and ongoing efforts to preserve and restore local traditions, Dučec has long been a pillar of cultural and social life in Mraclin. Events such as the June Days of St. Vitus and the popular Dučecove spelancije, along with the many tamburitza ensembles that originated within the society, represent a strong contribution to safeguarding local identity and tradition. These initiatives continue to attract growing audiences from Turopolje and the wider Zagreb area.

Considering that there is hardly a household in Mraclin that has not contributed at least one member to the society, and that Dučec is widely recognised as a leading cultural institution within the City of Velika Gorica, this centenary celebration stands as powerful testimony to the enduring continuity of cultural life in Mraclin — dating back to the early 20th-century ideas that emphasised the village as an active participant in shaping both its own and the nation’s history. Through eight commemorative events taking place from 12 to 19 June 2022 at various locations in Mraclin, KUD “Dučec” will celebrate its centenary and express gratitude to all members who have woven a part of themselves into the society’s rich legacy. The jubilee programme includes: • Children’s folklore gatherings in Mraclin • Opening of the photo exhibition “From Vjenčić to Dučec” and presentation of a new music release • Premiere of the documentary film “100 Years of Cultural and Artistic Amateurism in Mraclin” • A tamburitza evening in memory of Mraclin’s musicians • A ceremonial assembly • A grand folklore concert
