Zagreb Fair Becomes the Centre of the Motorsport World

The Easter weekend will mark the culmination of preparations for the FIA World Rally Championship round, the spectacular WRC Croatia Rally — the largest sporting event in Croatia and one of the most watched motorsport events worldwide — taking place from 21 to 24 April 2022.

Approximately 250 transport trucks and service vehicles are involved in setting up the competitors’ facilities and the Service Park. More than 300 crew members will lay over 6 kilometres of cables, install more than 7 kilometres of fencing, and deploy over 800 metres of water infrastructure. The expected total electricity consumption will reach approximately 1.2 MWh. All this — and much more — is required to transform Zagrebački Velesajam (Zagreb Fair) into the WRC Croatia Rally 2022 Service Park Fan Zone, a dynamic venue that will become the very heart of the global rally scene next week.

Fully aware of their impact not only on economic activity and consumption but also on the environment, the organisers are working closely this year with experts from the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences and the Energy Institute Hrvoje Požar to enhance operational efficiency and further reduce environmental impact, while continuing to generate strong economic benefits.

As previously announced, visitors can expect a rich programme of activities both along the rally stages and within the Fan Zones. The largest Fan Zone — the Service Park at Zagreb Fair — will open first on Tuesday, 19 April, and will remain open for six days through 24 April, when a closing celebration is scheduled for the evening. Here, visitors will witness a vibrant “city within a city” built by the teams of today’s top rally drivers. Fans will have the opportunity to see world-class rally cars and service areas up close, observe final preparations, and watch teams perform maintenance during the competition. As part of the accompanying programme, motorsport enthusiasts can purchase official Croatia Rally, WRC and top team merchandise, enjoy a diverse gastronomic offer, attend performances by DJs and well-known music artists, and test their skills on gaming consoles and professional racing simulators. Rally drivers competing in the 2022 edition will sign autographs on Tuesday, 19 April, and Wednesday, 20 April. On Thursday, 21 April, Friday, 22 April, and Saturday, 23 April, the popular “Meet the Crews” sessions will take place on the main stage, where drivers will address the audience and share their impressions. A detailed official programme is available at https://rally-croatia.com/hr/gledatelji/sluzbeni-program.

Via ulaznice.hr/web/ Tickets for all six Fan Zones — offering prime viewing positions at some of the most exciting points along the rally route — are available via ulaznice.hr. Each Fan Zone provides extensive hospitality services and full-day entertainment, including live coverage of the entire rally on large video walls with expert commentary and analysis. A comprehensive four-day package, including accommodation, starts from €215 and can be booked through the agency Btravel https://www.btravel.pro/en/wrc/.

Due to limited parking capacity at stage locations and the possibility of traffic congestion that could affect the smooth running of the event — as well as the organisers’ commitment to reducing environmental impact — visitors are kindly encouraged to carpool with friends, family or colleagues whenever possible and to arrive at least three hours before the start of the competition. Access to special stages from both the start and finish directions will not be permitted — including for pedestrians — during the final 30 minutes before each stage begins.
