At the international Green Destinations 2025 conference in Montpellier—one of the world’s leading platforms for sustainable tourism development—destinations from across the globe presented innovative and regenerative tourism models.

During the panel “Regenerative Tourism: Rethinking Tourism for People, Nature and Climate”, alongside representatives from Taiwan, Portugal, Bali, and Japan, the Zagreb County Tourist Board highlighted its approach, achievements, and long-term development strategy.

Ivana Alilović, Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board, emphasised:
“Being part of a panel with such esteemed global experts is a great honour and an opportunity to share the vision driving Zagreb County. For six years, we have been dedicated to building a tourism model rooted in sustainability, excellence, and innovation. Our message is clear — destinations should not only be protected but renewed and left better than we found them. That is the essence of regenerative tourism and the path we remain committed to.”

A further point of pride was the success of Sveti Ivan Zelina, which was included in the prestigious Top 100 Destination Stories 2025 list by Green Destinations, thanks to the Zelina Chestnut Festival project. This recognition demonstrates that local initiatives grounded in tradition and strong community involvement can reach global visibility and inspire destinations worldwide.

With its participation in this event, Zagreb County once again reaffirmed its commitment to shaping the tourism of the future — a tourism model that gives back to the community, connects heritage with innovation, and strengthens the competitiveness of the entire destination.
