Zagreb County Through the Lens: “Photo Zagreb County” Exhibition Opens and Awards Presented to Best Authors

The fifth edition of the photography competition has brought award-winning works by Dominik Papić, Ivan Mihael Pavlović, Davor Vidak, Kristina Majdak and Renato Glogovčan.

Wooden churches at sunset, lakes, rural scenes, Mount Medvednica on the horizon and moments of everyday life are just some of the motifs featured in the “Photo Zagreb County” exhibition, opened at the premises of the Zagreb County Tourist Board in Zagreb.

The exhibition opening also included the official award ceremony for the authors of the fifth edition of the photography competition, which, year after year, brings together amateur and professional photographers to capture the landscapes, motifs, and experiences of Zagreb County.

The award-winning photographs offer diverse perspectives on the county – from natural landscapes and cultural and historical heritage to traditions, rural motifs, eno-gastronomic experiences and outdoor activities. This wide range of themes demonstrates how Zagreb County can be interpreted through details, the atmosphere of its locations and scenes captured from each author’s unique perspective.

According to the expert jury, first prize was awarded to Dominik Papić, whose two photographs received the same highest number of points. His works depict rural landscapes, nature and everyday life, highlighting motifs that clearly evoke the green heart of continental Croatia – Zagreb County.

Second prize went to Ivan Mihael Pavlović for his photograph of a sunset over Mount Medvednica, featuring the recognisable silhouette of Sljeme and the tower on the horizon. Third prize was awarded to Davor Vidak for his photograph of anglers at Lake Rakitje, which portrays time spent in nature and the area's recreational value.

In addition to the awards selected by the expert jury, audience awards based on social media votes were also presented. Kristina Majdak received first prize for the number of Facebook likes on her photograph of a traditional wooden church at sunset. Renato Glogovčan won first prize based on the number of Instagram likes for his photograph of people swimming in Lake Novo Čiče during sunset.

Ivana Alilović, Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board, congratulated the award-winning authors and highlighted the importance of such visual materials in promoting the destination.

“The photographs presented today are of great value because they portray Zagreb County through authentic scenes and the personal perspectives of their authors. They capture places we know well, but also moments we might never notice without someone’s attentive eye. We have also placed special emphasis on creating a local value chain, which is why our laureates will use their prizes with local service providers at wineries, hotels and restaurants across Zagreb County. I congratulate all the winners and thank all participants for the remarkable interest shown in the competition,” said Ivana Alilović, Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board.

The expert jury responsible for selecting the best photographs included Božo Skoko, communications expert and professor; Mihaela Huzanić, representative of Hanza Media; Mario Žilec, representative of Kronika Velike Gorice; Ana Gašparović, Director of the Ivanić-Grad Tourist Board; and Josip Škof, professional photographer.

The exhibition of the award-winning photographs is open to the public at the Zagreb County Tourist Board, 42 Preradovićeva Street in Zagreb. Through the exhibited works, visitors can experience Zagreb County from the perspective of the authors who captured its landscapes, heritage, local motifs and everyday scenes.
