On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the national tourism awards, recognized as "Simply the Best," were presented, resulting in Zagreb County receiving five esteemed awards. This award ceremony was organized by the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies (UHPA) in collaboration with Way to Croatia magazine and constituted a significant component of the opening ceremony for the 25th PUT Business and Tourism Exchange.
Zagreb County has been honored with five awards across four distinct categories, highlighting its status as a leader in continental tourism. This recognition reflects the region's exceptional cultural and tourist offerings, further establishing it as a premier destination.
Premier Continental Destination
Within the "Continental Destination" category, the award was awarded to Zagreb County, a region that consistently prioritizes the advancement of sustainable, authentic, and content-rich tourism. The Director of the Tourist Board stated that this recognition further substantiates the strategic direction of the destination, which is gradually enhancing its profile on the Croatian tourism map.
"The acknowledgment of these awards is not a matter of chance; it is the result of intentional strategic planning, active involvement of the local community, and the creation of experiences that exceed expectations. Zagreb County currently represents an effective synthesis of tradition and innovation, as well as local identity and global potential. I express my sincere pride in the teams and individuals who contribute to these initiatives, as they exhibit a significant commitment to enhancing tourism and driving meaningful change," remarked Ivana Alilović, Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board.
Four awards are specifically allocated to events, souvenirs, and innovative projects in the tourism sector.
In the category of events, two initiatives received accolades. Štruklijada, Štrudlijada, and Kestenijada, held in Marija Gorica, won recognition in the subcategory "Heritage, Culture, and Tradition" within the food and drink sector. These events unite local producers and visitors in a celebration of traditional flavors and customs. Additionally, Air VG from Velika Gorica was honored in the category "Events - Entertainment," exemplifying a contemporary and engaging event that effectively integrates aviation, entertainment, and the promotion of the destination.
The Dugo Selo Memorial scarf and handkerchief have been recognized with an award in the category of “Souvenirs—items inspired by ethnology, folklore, and rural heritage.” These authentic souvenirs were developed in collaboration with the Tourist Board of the town of Dugo Selo and local creative talents. They offer a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional aesthetics, merging cultural heritage with modern design elements.
The Magical Zelina Fairy Park, located in Sv. Ivan Zelina, has received recognition for excellence in the category of new tourism projects. This initiative is designed to precisely align with visitors' expectations, offering them a distinctive and engaging experience.
The "Simply the Best" award is conferred by the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies (UHPA) in collaboration with Way to Croatia magazine.
