Zagreb County has firmly established itself as a leader in sustainable tourism, proudly earning the prestigious Green Destinations certificate. The county is now advancing its strategic planning with a significant initiative. The inaugural regional coordination meeting was held at the county's premises, effectively launching the development of the Destination Management Plan. A comprehensive multi-sector meeting convened, bringing together representatives from various counties, local self-government units, institutions, the private sector, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and other key stakeholders. This collaborative effort is set to strengthen Zagreb County's position as a definitive model for sustainable tourism development.
During the meeting, the methodology and stages involved in developing the Destination Management Plan were outlined, along with the key needs and priorities expressed by stakeholders. This planning document, set to be approved by the County Assembly, aims to ensure the long-term and sustainable management of the region's tourism offerings. The Tourist Board of Zagreb County emphasised that the plan incorporates input from all relevant stakeholders in the tourism sector within the area.
"The recent meeting underscored our commitment to the planned and responsible development of tourism within Zagreb County. This document is intended to provide us with tangible tools for effective destination management and to foster stronger connections between our cities, municipalities, and all tourism stakeholders to pursue a unified vision for an innovative, sustainable, and competitive tourism product. The involvement of all key stakeholders was deemed essential. The destination management plan for Zagreb County is not merely a technical document; it serves as a strategic guide for the future of our tourism sector. This initiative represents an opportunity to consolidate resources and promote sustainable development that honours our heritage, respects our natural environment, and benefits the local community," stated the Tourist Board of Zagreb County.
During the meetings, significant topics were addressed, including the utilisation of sustainability indicators, the development of tourist offerings in less developed regions, the enhancement of infrastructure, and the promotion of local resources. A primary objective is to establish a balance between advancing tourism and preserving both natural and cultural resources.
The destination management plan will serve as a foundational framework for the strategic development of the county, focusing on green and digital transitions, enhancing competitiveness, and promoting the region within both domestic and international markets. The establishment of this plan is intended to ensure the long-term sustainability of tourism, foster the development of innovative projects, and actively engage the local community in the creation of the tourism offering.
