The 3rd Samobor Craft Festival was held over the weekend, featuring 40 exhibitors, children's activities, and live music throughout the streets and squares of Samobor.
Craftsmen often share their trade secrets and the stories behind their creative processes. Brigita Mihina is a skilled artisan from the Medici-candlemaking craft Arko. Founded in 1941, the traditional craft has been passed on to her son, while Brigita continues to decorate licitars. The craft specialises in producing a range of candy bars, including hearts, horses, and babies, in a variety of colours, as well as gingerbread in several different flavours.
"Our small business, Family Farm Kristina Perković, creates exquisite products that showcase our love for craftsmanship. Our collection includes fine ceramic tableware, colourful fabrics featuring authentic patterns, and delicious delicacies. Our products are made using high-quality butternut squash, and each one is stamped with our seal of authenticity."
The Celižić handicrafts keep alive the ethnic traditions of the Samobor region. All of their products are unique and can be custom-made to order. They create ethnic souvenirs using local cloth, handcrafted dolls dressed in traditional folk costumes, Samoborski kraluš for both festive occasions and everyday wear, handbags made from local cloth, and aprons suitable for all purposes. Additionally, they offer custom-made folk costumes specifically tailored to the Samobor region.
The organization of events that celebrate traditional crafts and cultural heritage is an effective means of promoting tourism and local development. These events attract tourists and increase recognition of the place, thereby contributing to the growth of the tourism industry. The Festival organized by Samobor is a commendable effort not only to appreciate traditional crafts but also to ensure their survival and flourishing in the modern world. By organizing such events, Samobor is playing a vital role in preserving cultural heritage and promoting economic growth in the region.
