Andautonia Days

The Andautonia Days event is scheduled for Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, 2024, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Andautonia Archaeological Park in Ščitarjevo. The event is being organised by the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb.

During the two-day event, attendees will have the opportunity to partake in a variety of complimentary workshops and activities, including but not limited to public speaking, ceramic vessel crafting, oil lamp making, carving, Roman-themed games, bull crafting, writing, Roman fashion, and activities for young archaeologists. The event will also feature professional guided tours, lectures, concerts, and authentic Roman cuisine prepared according to historical recipes. An interactive exhibition titled "Roman Fragrances" will allow visitors to create their oil-based perfumes using ingredients commonly used by the Romans. The program will include the participation of external collaborators as well as students from Ščitarjevo Elementary School and the Ščitarjevo Women's Association.

During the event, entrance to the Archaeological Park is free, and pets are also welcome.

The schedule for May 25th is as follows:

12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Workshops include making ceramic vessels, oil lamps, weaving, and more. Additionally, there will be a stone carving workshop led by sculptor Vid Vučak, a session on the Zodiac in ancient Rome led by Dr. Ivana Ožanić Roguljić, and a "Roman" perfume mixing activity led by Katica Wolf, an aromatherapist. At 1 p.m., there will lecture "The Bond is Stronger than Death - Joint Burials of People and Dogs across Space and Time" by Rujana Jeger. Later at 4 p.m., there will be an oratory workshop led by Deniver Vukelić, followed by a concert on the Roman road at 5 p.m., featuring Tonko Marković on the cello performing J.S. Bach's Suite for cello in C major. The day will conclude with the "Car je gol" concert and socializing with Roman wine starting at 6 p.m.

From 12:00 p.m. to 6 p.m

On May 26th, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., workshops will be held, including making ceramic vessels, oil lamps, weaving, and a stone carving workshop led by sculptor Vid Vučak. Katica Wolf, an aromatherapist, will also lead a "Roman" perfume mixing activity. Additionally, there will be a narrative play titled "Roman stories in Andautonia" by Srebrenka Peregrin Pavlaković. At 1 p.m., a concert on the Roman road will feature Tonko Marković performing J.S. Bach's Suite for cello in C major. Lastly, at 4 p.m., a lecture titled "About witches and black dogs - the origin of prejudice" will be given by Rujana Jeger.
