The Zagreb County Tourist Board recently hosted a ceremony to honor the recipients of the "Rose of Zagreb County 2025" award at the Business Incubator in Velika Gorica. The event gathered a diverse group of individuals from the fields of tourism, economy, culture, and socio-political life in the region, all coming together to celebrate the laureates who exemplify the pride of Zagreb County as a premier tourist destination.
The current edition of the Rose of Zagreb County marks the third consecutive year of this event, showcasing a unique blend of tradition and modernity for all participants. Awards were presented in nine distinct categories, recognizing excellence in areas such as sustainable tourism, exemplary service, innovative digital solutions in tourism, and socially responsible entrepreneurship.
The event featured a musical performance by the vocal ensemble JANE, whose sound reflected the profound essence of tradition. Additionally, a reenactment of the cultural practice known as podgutnica was conducted by Ana Katulić, with the support of the Noble Municipality of Turopolje. This experience transported all attendees to a time when symbols conveyed deep meanings of belonging and honour.
The installation titled "Podgutnica," created by artist Tina Miličević, is constructed from wood and meticulously painted to reflect the essence of our region. This work embodies the fundamental aspects of our cultural heritage, the elegance of simplicity, and a profound respect for the legacy we impart to future generations. In alignment with this ethos, select components of the installation will be donated to kindergartens in the City of Velika Gorica. This initiative aims to enrich the developmental experiences of children, fostering a deeper awareness of their local heritage.
At the heart of this ceremony were our personnel. These individuals, through their contributions, innovative ideas, enthusiasm, and unwavering dedication, define the attributes that enhance the county's identity on a daily basis.
"In an era where destinations increasingly vie for attention through content and experiential offerings, we have chosen to pause and reflect on our existing assets: our people, heritage, and sense of community. The Rose of Zagreb County represents not merely an accolade but an invitation to all those who contribute value to our local community and the tourism sector, often in a discreet and steadfast manner. It is these individuals whom we recognize and commend today," stated Ivana Alilović, Director of the Zagreb County Tourist Board.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Secret Delight, a local welcome beverage associated with the Zagreb County project. This gesture underscored the principle that a guest is regarded not merely as a statistic but as an individual. Furthermore, it highlighted that a warm reception is a reflection of the character of a destination rather than merely a service.
The achievements of the Rose of Zagreb County this year demonstrate that significant success does not solely arise from institutional frameworks, but rather from the initiative and dedication of individuals. This highlights that the true strength of a region resides in its essence and the emotional impact it imparts.
